Silver Springs Organics Organic Material Guidelines

Organic Material Guidelines

Materials Collection Criteria

Follow the guidelines below to make sure you Keep the Green Clean!

Many items labeled as "compostable" do not completely compost in all commercial operations. New items have been tested and compost successfully in the required timeframe for Silver Springs Organics' system.

Manufacturers that wish to have their products tested in order to be considered for this list may contact Silver Springs directly. See below for commonly acceptable materials.

Accepted

Yard and Garden Waste
Wood Waste
Food Waste

Not Accepted

Plastics of ANY kind
Styrofoam of ANY kind
Glass of ANY kind
Metal of ANY kind
All Nondegradables
Soiled Paper

*CAUTION: Paper food containers with a shiny or slick surface are prohibited because they have a thin plastic layer/lining (poly-coat) on them. They do not compost. These items are recyclable through other companies.

WHEN IN DOUBT - THROW IT OUT!

Food waste collected and hauled in a stationary compactor is prohibited from acceptance at Silver Springs Organics and will be rejected prior to offloading.

This list is subject to change without prior notice at the sole discretion of Silver Springs Organics' management. Please make note of the "Updated" date below to ensure the most current acceptable materials list is used.
